As I travel through Lebanon, I am surprised and pleased by some of the herbs I see coming up for the spring. White sage and fennel are abundant, as are anise, dandelion, and many kinds of thistles and mallows. There are fruit trees and pine nut trees everywhere. Olive trees are a dime a dozen. Carob trees are in the woods and you can walk right up to them and pick the fruit off and eat it fresh. It looks like black, rotten bananas, but it tastes so good.
I finally found and purchased a book on the local flora here, so maybe I can get to identifying some of these plants.
